It is called “second booster dose”, “second booster”, or even “fourth dose” when it is a messenger RNA vaccine like Pfizer. And it is now accessible to a larger part of the population, announced the government of New Caledonia, this Friday.
For fragile people, this “second reminder” was already possible since March 23, provided they were at least 80 years old. An age limit lowered to sixty years since April 16.
Since mid-August, it has been extended:
- severely immunocompromised people;
- people who are between 18 and 59 years old and at risk of a severe form of Covid-19;
- pregnant women from the first trimester of pregnancy;
- to people who live or who have regular contact with fragile people or
- immunocompromised;
- health professionals and the medico-social sector.
Still according to the government, this second booster dose is administered
- from three months following the first booster injection, or Covid-19 infection for people aged 80 and over and severely immunocompromised people, whatever their age;
- from six months following the first booster injection or infection for other eligible persons.
- in Nouméa, at the family health center located in Montravel: by appointment on Tuesdays and without an appointment on Wednesdays;
- in province Sudin the medico-social centers of Île des Pins, Yaté, Thio, La Foa and Bourail, by appointment only;
- in the North province, freephone number 05 00 22;
- In pharmacies or at registered health professionals on an interactive map.
The protection conferred by the vaccine decreases over time and the virus continues to circulate: the most fragile people, whose immunity is weaker, must remain vigilant.
