COVID-19: the fourth dose open to all from Wednesday

The fourth dose, or second booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, is now open to 18 to 59 year olds.

Anyone of legal age can now make an appointment to get their fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Committee on Immunization of Quebec (CIQ) does not recommend, except in exceptional cases, this booster dose for this age group of the population, but did not provide any contraindication, specifying that it was possible to administer to people who want it.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health, only 33% of people aged 60 and over got their fourth dose in the province. In total, 10% of the population got their second booster dose and just over half (54%) got their first booster dose.

The vaccine once morest COVID-19, distributed for more than a year, consists of two doses injected a few weeks apart. Booster doses were subsequently recommended to ensure long-term efficacy of the vaccine and to control new variants.
