Government sources had first confirmed to TVA Nouvelles on Thursday morning that the national director of public health would announce the end of the compulsory mask during his 2 p.m. press briefing.

Subsequently, Quebec clarified that the “objective” remains for May 14, but that Dr Boileau wishes to observe the evolution of the situation before confirming his decision.

Public Health is expected to announce a firm date next week. “If everything continues to go well, the date of May 14 will be maintained”, explains a government source.

First scheduled for 1is May, the end of the mandatory mask was finally postponed by two weeks recently, in front of the sixth wave which fell on Quebec.

Face coverings should, however, continue to be required in public transport and in health establishments.

It will also remain recommended, particularly for people with COVID-19.
