COVID-19 Reclassified as Group B Infectious Disease: Prevention and Control Measures

Hanoi (VNA) – Since October 20, COVID-19 has been officially classified as a group B infectious disease, along with influenza, measles, dengue, whooping cough, tuberculosis, etc.

The Ministry of Health has decided to reclassify acute respiratory infection caused by a new strain of corona virus (COVID-19) as a group B infectious disease, in accordance with the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases of 2007.

Therefore, since October 20, COVID-19 prevention and control measures have been implemented in accordance with the provisions of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 2007 as applied to group B diseases.

In January 2020, the Ministry of Health decided to add COVID-19 to the list of group A infectious diseases. After nearly four years of fighting the epidemic, COVID-19 is now classified as a disease Group B infectious diseases. Group B infectious diseases are diseases that can spread quickly and can lead to death.

Since the start of the epidemic, Vietnam has experienced four epidemic waves, with more than 11.6 million cases, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories. Of this number, more than 10.6 million cases have been declared cured and 43,206 deaths have been reported. Vietnam has administered 266,532 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. -VNA
