The national committee for the prevention and response to Covid-19 held a meeting on July 26 to present the current situation of the coronavirus in Burundi. The Ministry of Public Health and the Fight once morest AIDS is sounding the alarm.

423 people tested positive out of 7,483 tests carried out from July 23 to 25: “Since the second week of July, there has been an increase in cases of people who tested positive. We can record an average of 200 people who test positive per day. You see that the numbers are increasing in an incredible way,” said Minister of Health Sylvie Nzeyimana.

The economic capital, Bujumbura and the political capital, Gitega, are among the provinces that record many positive cases.

In this meeting, Minister Gervais Ndirakobuca, who represents this committee, indicated that the greatest number of people who tested positive are travelers using Melchior Ndadaye International Airport to enter the country: “On their arrival, they present us with certificates of test which are negative, but we do not understand why there are many positive cases more than on other entry points in Burundi. I think many are using fraudulent documents,” said Gervais Ndirakobuca.

The Minister of Health asks travelers to check their mailboxes before leaving their homes once they arrive in Burundi. It also reminds us to respect the barrier measures which are, among other things, hand washing and wearing a mask.
