Covid-19 in France: 91 new deaths and nearly 22,000 hospitalized patients

The pressure remained strong on hospital services this Sunday, with more than 3,800 Covid-19 patients in critical care, services which received 151 patients in 24 hours. In detail, 3,847 people are thus treated for the most severe forms of Covid-19, according to figures from Public Health France. They were 3815 the day before and 3572 last week.

In total, 21,982 people are hospitalized with a diagnosis of Covid-19, with 842 new hospitalizations in 24 hours. On Saturday, hospitals had 21,721 patients and on January 2, 19,043.

The disease has claimed 125,440 people since the start of the epidemic in spring 2020, of whom 98,299 have died in hospital, with 91 new deaths in 24 hours.

More than 77% of French people have a complete vaccination schedule

The rate of contamination is not slowing down, with 296,097 new cases recorded in 24 hours. The seven-day average is increasing and exceeds 265,000 daily cases. Government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced on Sunday “a plan to strengthen” the testing policy, including the deployment of “several hundred” screening centers near vaccination centers.

Since the start of the booster campaign, 28,388,922 people have received a booster dose. In addition, since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 53,262,242 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 79% of the total population) and 52,018,107 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 77.2% of the total population), indicates the General Directorate of Health this Sunday evening.
