Covid-19 emergency nears end, Omicron spreading fast – WHO

Geneva: Covid rates are still rising in many countries of the world including China and Britain. Now the World Health Organization is clarifying that the emergency phase of Covid is almost over. But the spread of Omicron is still too fast, says the World Health Organization.

We are getting closer to the point where we can say the pandemic emergency is over. But still not there. The reason for that is Omicron’s ability to spread – said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization.

Omicron has been shown to be more invasive than delta-like variants that have spread in the past. Due to this, the death rate has also increased. The World Health Organization says the lack of accurate surveillance and fewer tests and vaccinations are creating conditions for new variants.

The figures of the World Health Organization show that there is a decrease in the death rate recorded during the last five weeks. But the death toll recorded last week alone is 8,500. Tedros Athano Ghebreyesus stated that it is not acceptable that the rate does not decrease even though more than three years following the arrival of Covid, death can be prevented through many means.

According to the conclusion of the World Health Organization, 90 percent of the world’s population is thought to have received immunity from vaccination or previous covid infection.
