Here is the update on the health situation linked to the coronavirus epidemic in Brittany, communicated by the ARS this Tuesday, December 6. The figures show that the 9th wave is here…

“The latest health indicators confirm the arrival of the ninth wave of COVID-19 in Brittany. This epidemic resumption has an impact on hospital activity, which is already very high due to the concomitant epidemics of influenza and bronchiolitis. In this context, it is important to have an up-to-date vaccination status : Vaccination remains the most effective weapon of protection against serious forms.

In accordance with the recommendations of the High Authority for Health are eligible for this vaccination:

people over the age of 60,

residents of EHPAD and USLD,

people at risk of a severe form of the disease (immunocompromised, pregnant women, people under 60 identified as being at risk),

· professionals in the health and medico-social sectors.

Beyond these categories, people living in the entourage or in regular contact with immunocompromised or vulnerable people can also be vaccinated.

With the approach of the end of year celebrations, conducive to gatherings, it is necessary for fragile people to have an up-to-date vaccination schedule.

Bivalent vaccines are available from liberal professionals (doctors, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, etc.).

The administration of this booster dose must respect the minimum recommended intervals between two vaccinations:

· 3 months for people aged 80 and over, for residents of nursing homes or USLDs, for immunocompromised people;

· 6 months for the others;

(In case of recent infection, a delay of 3 months is to be expected between the infection and the booster dose).

Vaccination against COVID-19 is fully compatible with annual flu vaccination, strongly recommended by scientific authorities.

At the same time, it is essential to maintain barrier gesturesin particular wearing a mask as soon as the situation requires it (public transport, places with a high population density, presence of fragile people, etc.) and regular ventilation of the premises.
