More than 90 additional deaths in the country

More than 90 deaths linked to COVID-19 have been added to the balance sheets of Ontario and Quebec in the past 24 hours.

More encouraging, the number of hospitalized patients continued its slow decline with 3,283 beds occupied by infected patients, 12 less than the day before. The situation remained fairly stable in intensive care with 273 infected patients, down two.

Additionally, 5,141 new cases have been officially diagnosed with PCR tests, a number that underestimates the true rate at which the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is spreading.

The situation is similar in Ontario, where 56 deaths and 5,833 cases were reported on Sunday.

As in Quebec, the number of patients remained relatively stable in intensive care with 604 infected patients, up four. The number of hospitalizations fell by 229 to reach 3,797 occupied beds, a number probably underestimated since several Ontario hospitals do not provide all their data on weekends.

On the Atlantic side, New Brunswick has reported 545 infections and two deaths, while Nova Scotia has had 503 new cases and Newfoundland and Labrador 361.

Prince Edward Island has mourned its sixth death to date, in addition to announcing 209 more cases.
