Court will hand down sentence for German teacher’s crime

The Fifth Criminal Sentencing Court scheduled for May 3 to hand down a sentence in the case where three people face trial for the death of Elke Wolter Harms, a teacher of German origin who was murdered in a sector of the La Reformita neighborhood in the area. 12.
Carla Escobar, Fredy López and Ana Chamalé are accused by the Public Ministry (MP) of being allegedly involved in the murder of the teacher. The crime occurred on the followingnoon of November 4, 2021, the victim was driving her vehicle when she suffered the attack where she lost her life.
The trial once morest the three accused began on February 8, the day Fredy López and Ana Chamalé decided to testify in court. After listening to the version of events narrated by Chamalé, the court indicated that her testimony might give a twist to the investigation and asked the media that it might not be made known publicly.
25 years in prison
In the continuation of the trial and in the conclusions stage, the investigative body asked the court that the accused receive a sentence of 25 years of incommutable prison for the murder of the teacher.
Lawyers in charge of the defense of the accused asked the court for an acquittal ruling arguing that the evidence and indications presented by the MP lack support and do not prove the participation of their clients.
Until now, the causes of the attack once morest Elke Wolter and the motives for the events are unknown. The court’s decision will be known at the beginning of May, whether it issues a conviction or releases the accused.
