Court urged to adopt settlement in iPhone 6 and 7 lawsuit

The lawyer leading the lawsuit, Michael Peerless, told a judge at British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver that the amounts paid will depend on the number of valid claims received from those who can prove they owned phones, including several iPhone 6 and 7 models.

He argued before Justice Sharon Matthews that similar litigation in the United States provided a “valuable road map” during settlement negotiations, which might see Apple pay a maximum of around $14.4 million to members of the Canadian group.

Also in court, Mr Peerless mentioned the claims process would be very “simple”. People who have purchased devices with slowness and battery problems will be able to make their complaint online or on paper.

Apple’s lawyer, Jill Yates, told the court that the company has never admitted wrongdoing.

The judge reserved her decision to approve the settlement until February 21, 2024.
