According to the case, a husband and wife living in Klaipėda, acting in a group of accomplices, in 2021. bribed the employees of a private medical institution in the summer to make false records about the fact of vaccination against COVID-19. It was found that a bribe of EUR 1,000 was transferred for the fake COVID-19 vaccination records of 2 persons – the accused and her son.
The spouses were charged in accordance with Article 227 of the Criminal Code (PC) (“Purchasing”), paragraph 2. The woman was also charged in accordance with Article 300 of the Civil Code (“Forgery of a document or possession of a forged document”), paragraph 1. Three accomplices of the spouses, two of whom are also spouses, were accused of helping to bribe hospital staff to make false records of vaccinations.
The judge of the Palanga Chamber of the Plunge District Court admitted in his judgment that all five defendants committed the crimes they were charged with.
By the court’s decision, the convicted woman from Klaipėda was fined 7,500 euros, her husband was released from criminal liability on bail, the court ordered him to pay a contribution of 2,500 euros to the Fund for Victims of Crime.
The persons who helped the couple from Klaipėda to hand over the bribe also failed to avoid responsibility – the court imposed fines of 8,000 euros and 8,500 euros on the two assistants who denied guilt and who are also spouses. Another defendant in the case, the assistant, was released from criminal liability on bail, obliging him to pay a contribution of 3,000 euros to the fund for victims of crimes.
