Kochi / Thiruvananthapuram: Former MLA PC George has been re-arrested following his bail was canceled by a magistrate’s court in a case of hate speech in East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram. PC George was taken to Ernakulam General Hospital late at night due to high blood pressure. He reached Thiruvananthapuram at 12.30 pm.
Meanwhile, PC George approached the High Court last night once morest the magistrate court order. The court will consider this morning. The petitioner had said that he had serious health problems and should be considered for bail last night.
George Palarivattom was present at the police station for questioning in a case of making hate speech at a temple function at Vennala, Ernakulam. He was taken to the Ernakulam City Armed Police Camp for questioning but was not arrested by the Palarivattom police. The High Court had directed that bail be granted if the arrest is registered. Instead, he was arrested by the Fort police in a case in Thiruvananthapuram. The High Court is considering George’s anticipatory bail in the case of his speech in Vennala.
The provisions of the Indian Penal Code apply to inciting communal rivalry and intentionally inciting religious hatred. The move by the Fort police is to bring him to Thiruvananthapuram and remand him.
George arrived at Palarivattom station around 3 pm yesterday. Earlier, PDP activists had come out with protest slogans. Later, BJP workers came out with positive slogans. By then, the police had arrested the PDP activists and removed them.
