The starting signal for the marathon is in Hopkintonsouth of Boston.
The route & the most beautiful sights
The point-to-point course runs 42.195 kilometers from Hopkinton to the center of Boston. The route has a negative gradient of around 150 meters and is therefore not recordable.
The highest point of the route is at the start. The first 5 kilometers are almost continuously slightly downhill Ashland ran.
After 11 km reach the athletes Framingham. The route is now almost entirely slightly profiled. After 24 km will Wellesley Hills reached. Shortly therefollowing follows a short downhill passage direction Newton Lower Falls in the town of Newton.
From km 26 the course becomes much more demanding. At km 28 the route passes through Woodland. At km 33 follows the well-known one Heartbreak Hill, a short but steep uphill section. After that, almost all the way downhill towards the center of Boston.
Sightseeing features The route includes Ashland, the Stylianos Kyriakides Statue, Framingham, Lake Cochituate, Natick, Woodland Country Club, Newton Fire Station, Johnny Kelley Statue, Boston College, Chestnut Hill Reservoir, the Brookline, Coolidge Corner and Kenmore Square.

Boston Marathon Qualification: What are the qualifying times?
Qualification times depend on age. Men have higher standards than women, young participants also have higher standards than older participants.
Male participants up to the age of 34 have the hardest limit with a qualifying time of 3 hours. For women in this age range it is 3:30 hours.
If the time limit is met at another marathon, no starting place is guaranteed. Because if more than 24,000 interested parties meet the criteria, only the best 24,000 will be admitted.
