Courier union lifts occupancy of CJ Korea Express after 18 days

Union “Strike – Sit in front of headquarters continues”
Urging the management to “talk directly”

On the 28th, the National Delivery Workers’ Union of the National Confederation of Democratic Trade Unions (KCTU) lifted the sit-down on the first floor of CJ Logistics headquarters. It has been 18 days since the occupancy of the headquarters on the 10th of last month. However, the union plans to request CJ Korea Express to participate in social dialogue while continuing the strike and the sit-down in front of the headquarters.

Kim Tae-wan, senior vice chairman of the Korea Express Courier Union, held a press conference in front of the CJ Korea Express headquarters on the followingnoon of the same day and announced, “As of today, the siege over the CJ Korea Express headquarters will be lifted.” However, he said, “The strike squad is still strong. We urge CJ Logistics to directly engage in dialogue, and we are open to dialogue.” All 40 union members who remained on the first floor of the headquarters withdrew from the building.

This measure was made in the form of acceptance of the Democratic Party’s proposal by the courier union. On the morning of the same day, the Democratic People’s Assembly Meeting for People’s Livelihood, Jin Seong-joon, Chairman of the Democratic Party’s Euljiro Committee, and Rep. Jang Gyeong-tae visited the Nongjangjangjang and said, “I urge the courier union to make a forward-looking effort to end the strike.” please,” he asked. Specifically, it said, “We request that the actors who participated in the social consensus mechanism engage in additional social dialogue on issues with differing views.”

When asked if CJ Logistics would take additional collective action if CJ Logistics did not respond to the dialogue following that, Senior Vice Chairman Kim declined to answer, saying, “I hope that will not happen, but it is not appropriate to assume the situation in advance.”

However, it is unclear whether CJ Logistics, which did not engage in dialogue because it is not a direct employment relationship, will come to the negotiating table with the union side. CJ Logistics did not issue a separate statement on the withdrawal of the occupation and siege. The CJ Logistics Agency Coalition also expressed regret for the Democratic Party, who proposed additional social dialogue, saying, “I have no choice but to doubt the authenticity of the last dialogue when I see the act of attracting Woncheong (CJ Korea Express) once more.”
