Courier drone left 2,000 people without power – it landed on a power line

Nearly 2,000 people were left without power following a Wing food delivery drone (part of Alphabet Holding) landed on overhead power lines in Brisbane, Australia and caught fire. In response to the incident, energy company Energex shut down the grid. Electricity supply for the majority of subscribers was restored following regarding 45 minutes, and 300 consumers remained without electricity for three hours.

A spokesman for Wing told The Age that the drone had “precautionary controlled landing yesterday and stuck on an overhead power line”, regarding which Energex was informed. “Two hours later, when they were already engaged in the search, there was a power outage in the area, — said the representative of Wing. — We apologize for any inconvenience caused. We are currently reviewing yesterday’s event.”

In turn, Energex representative Danny Donald (Danny Donald) noted that there was no damage to the line, which is energized with 11,000 volts, and that Energex quickly responded to the problem. “The food was still hot in the delivery drone box when the team got there.” he said.

“Fifteen years ago we asked people to be careful when they give their children kites for Christmas and watch where they fly them, — said the representative of Energex. — We are now asking parents to be very careful regarding where their children send their drones.».

However, this drone was not controlled by children, but by the Wing company, whose drones deliver food in three countries – the USA, Finland and Australia. The company has been especially successful in the Australian suburbs, where food delivery is worse than in cities. As of August last year, Wing served approximately 100,000 customers in Brisbane, and as of March this year, it has completed approximately 200,000 orders.
