Needless to say, this American couple couldn’t believe their eyes. Having identical twins for the second time is a very rare phenomenon. A look back at the fascinating history of the Credo family.

A long-awaited first pregnancy…

Living in Louisiana, Erin and Jake Credo are a happy couple and above all grateful to have been able to welcome their identical twins, Cooper and Grant, in 2014. The arrival of the two twins literally transformed their home. It must be said that this much-desired pregnancy gave them a hard time. To finally get pregnant, Erin needed medical assistance. So it was quite a journey before arriving at the happy ending. And, of course, when the twins finally came into the world, the joy of the young parents was immense, as our colleagues from Today tell us. They devoted all their time to taking care of their two little angels. And, every day, they were fascinated and passionate about the strange bond between their twins. “ Cooper and Grant are still cuddling. The other day Grant fell asleep in our bed and his brother immediately kissed him on the forehead. », says Erin. “ It’s incredible, the bond between identical twins is like no other! ».

But, as we can guess, after their obstacle course, they were far from imagining that destiny would give them another child, let alone two!

It’s go again !

« Honestly, we were kind of hesitant about having more, because I didn’t want to relive everything I went through to get pregnant. I could never have imagined for a single second that I would one day become the mother of four children! “, Erin explains to Today.

Destiny wanted it otherwise. Against all odds, six years after giving birth to her twins, Erin became pregnant. But, the surprise didn’t stop. The first ultrasound revealed that she was expecting another set of twins. “ When I had my ultrasound, I was in shock, I couldn’t believe my eyes and I didn’t even know what to say “, she remembers. Immediately, she had the reflex to capture the photo to share the news with her husband. “ I sent a picture of the ultrasound to my husband and he didn’t understand why I sent him that picture. He asked me if this was the old photo of our boys… », she says amusedly. When Jake received the photo on his cell phone, it was so disturbing that he actually thought it was his sons’ old ultrasound photo. But his wife left him speechless by answering him directly: “ No. It’s go again » !

« He was speechless, totally surprised (…). But, obviously, very quickly, it was the excitement that took us by storm. We had done this before. After all, having twins is the best thing we do! “, she continues.

A double twin pregnancy is extremely rare…

Dr. Cliff Moore, who supervised Erin’s pregnancy, explained how rare their case was: ” Only one in more than 100,000 pregnancies results in a second set of identical twins “, he said. “ To give you an idea, we deliver around 8,000 babies in hospital every year, which means this only happens once every 15 years. », he explains. What is certain is that two pairs of monochorionic twins (sharing the same placenta) is truly exceptional. “ The chances are very slim for having a double pregnancy twin. It is estimated that one in 100,000 people will have this type of twins. said Dr. Moore, director of fetal intervention at Woman’s. Not to mention that the course of such a pregnancy is far from simple. “ Not all twins are the same. If you become pregnant with a pair of high-risk twins, it is important to be closely monitored by a healthcare provider who specializes in this matter to ensure that your babies will not have problems,” emphasizes. -he. “Luckily for Erin, she was lucky enough to be able to bring her twins home! », concludes Moore.

All’s well That ends well. Adorable little Allie and Lola were born on September 23, 2020 at 32 weeks and three days, weighing 4 pounds/6 ounces and 3 pounds/12 ounces, respectively. The two sisters still spent four weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), with only their parents and medical staff by their side. Visitors were not allowed due to restrictions linked to the health crisis. Looking back on this difficult time, Erin says she was happy to have been so well supported by her medical team: “ It was quite a challenge! I had to get through much of this journey relying on my medical providers at Woman’s Hospital. They became our family in a way “, she says. “ But then, eight months into my pregnancy, I still couldn’t believe that I was going to bring two more babies home! », she exclaims.

The meeting with their older brothers went wonderfully well. As the shock slowly wears off, the parents are now looking forward to the next chapter of their beautiful, big family. Six people at home is not easy. But as long as their children are happy and healthy, that’s all that matters to them.
