A virtual space for conversations between tutors, training tips, search for services such as veterinarian, bath and grooming, in addition to the possibility of uniting adopters and domestic animals. This is the goal of the social network OurPet – The Animal App, created by friends Rafael Barioni, lawyer, and Silvio Cabral Jr., designer.
The duo saw in the pet market a chance to offer a service different from the conventional one. The numbers don’t lie: in 2021, the billing of the Brazilian pet segment grew 27% in the annual comparison, to R$ 51.7 billion, according to the Pet Brasil Institute.
“We created the social network with a focus on the animal cause. We seek, with the help of technologies such as artificial intelligence, to create a safe environment that encourages conscious adoptions and allows users to promote encounters between animals with similar behavior”, says Silvio Cabral, today CTO of OurPet.
Partnership with NGOs
Cabral sees OurPet, which also has an app, as an opportunity for integrated work with the third sector. The platform provides photos and information on animals that are looking for a guardian and, according to the partners, the period between the availability of the animal and the meeting of the new caregiver is two days.
“We believe that this technology greatly reduces the work of those involved with NGOs, homes, entities or even the independent protectors themselves. In addition, we were able to assist in the automation of the daily routines of the NGOs, helping to combat mistreatment, abandonment and impulsive adoption”, says Cabral.
Animal Social Network
OurPet works in a similar way to a conventional network for human beings, with profiles, creation of communities, pages, groups, sharing of stories, photos and videos. There are also personalized items for animals, such as an algorithm that approximates the profile of animals that have similar characteristics and live in nearby regions.
“Our network also has embedded technology capable of helping users locate their pet if it decides to go for a walk without warning. The tutor can notify the loss of an animal to users in a given region, regardless of their friendship circle, expanding the search circle”, details the CTO.
The platform offers the possibility of interaction between consumers and professionals working in the pet segment, whether with products or services, such as veterinarians, trainers, groomers, grooming, DayCare, uberpet, DogWalk.
The service is free for the user, but the retailer pays a monthly fee. “Only professionals who work within Guia Animal pay a monthly fee to have access to all the benefits of the management panel, that is, without commission fees and any other cost that involves sales within the application”, concludes Cabral.
