Countdown to the premiere 2024-03-12 09:02:48

The measure will be valid until May 4, 2024 and the products that will be included in the “Lent Basket” will be halva, fasting salads (spreads – e.g. eggplant salads, taramo salads, etc.) but also frozen seafood (at least two types).

At the same time, the decision for the products in the “Household Basket” continues to apply.

“Article 1: Categories of products that are included in the “Household basket”: Those liable under paragraph 1 of article 55 of Law 5045/2023 send to the Ministry of Development a list of consumer products (“household basket”) that are necessary for a decent living and in particular at least one product from each product category included in the “household basket”.

This initiative is an extension of the “Household Basket” already in place, as three new food categories are added. The aim is to ensure that every household will have access to all the necessary products for the Lenten table at affordable prices.

Lent basket: Which products are included in the government’s new measure?

The “Lent Basket” includes the following products:

  • Halva
  • Fasting Salads (ointments – eggplant salads, taramo salads, etc.)
  • Frozen seafood (at least two types)

The Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas said in this regard: “We want every home to have access to quality products at the lowest possible prices during these holy days. The “Lent Basket”, which is an extension of the “Household Basket”, includes all the necessary food for every household in view of the Lenten fast. No citizen will be excluded from those precious goods to fill the family table. The government will continue to take all necessary initiatives to effectively help all consumers.”
