Countdown to the Farewell: Lise Dion’s Last Show and Beyond

The countdown has begun for Lise Dion: only around thirty performances left before turning the page on Chu got there, her last career one-woman show. The comedian does not regret his choice to put an end to touring life. But she admits, “it’s starting to be hard”.

Emotion is at its peak in the venues where Lise Dion is currently performing on tour. Joined on the road in the Maritimes, the comedian says she is well aware that the atmosphere of her shows is colored by the announcement of her withdrawal from the touring circuit, made last year.

The ovations are longer. And the stage, even more difficult to leave at the end of the evening. Especially since she closes each show with a singing tour where she reappropriates Let me go, Nicole Martin’s immortal success. A title which becomes all the more evocative, given the circumstances.

“It hits the heart. People know that this is my last show in their area, the emotion is intense and they are on edge. This is particularly true in the region. Obviously, the public in Montreal is warm, but when I arrive in places where I don’t go often, the amount of love is even more incredible. I’m definitely going to miss that,” breathes the comedian.

Serene

Many of them try to bribe her, to make her change her mind. But she has no intention of giving in. And she is serene; his decision to end the touring life is carefully considered and, let’s face it, quite realistic. A few days before celebrating her 68th birthday, the comedian finds it difficult to see herself starting another “4 or 5 year cycle” with a new one-woman show.

“If it works well, I should present it on stage until I’m 72.” I would be too afraid of having to cancel shows for health reasons; I definitely don’t want that to happen. THE body is still in good shape, I can still do lots of things. But doing three shows a week is physically demanding. So I’m afraid it will be problematic to continue,” she says.

“I know it’s going to be difficult to leave the stage, this proximity to the audience. But when I think about the future, I realize that I am making the right decision. I don’t want to stop because the illness is forcing me to do so. I have had a fulfilling career, I am proud of what I have done and I have no bitterness,” she continues.

More projects

Lise Dion fans can still be reassured: their idol has no intention of retiring completely. In interview at Journal, the comedian discusses many projects of which she must, for the moment, keep quiet about the details. But it would not be surprising to see it appear on our televisions in the not too distant future, with a series project currently in development.

“After the tour, I want to take a good three months to rest, to be in shape for the future. I still want to write, to play… It’s certain that I won’t retire completely and that I will make small appearances on television or at festivals. I already know that this will tempt me,” she explains.

The tour Chu got there will end on December 22 L’étoile du Quartier Dix30, in Brossard.
