Grand Lahou, July 14, 2024 (AIP) – The secretary general of the Grand Lahou prefecture (south, Grands Ponts region), Émile Yao, along with health authorities, urged the population on Friday, July 12, 2024, to use the free, state-distributed insecticide-treated mosquito nets properly, warning of consequences for misuse.
Yao issued this warning during the launch of the mosquito net distribution, emphasizing that these nets are not for agricultural purposes. He specifically cautioned once morest using them to cover crops, as football goal nets, or for resale.
“We will take action if we find that the impregnated mosquito nets are not being used for their intended purpose,” Yao stated.
The departmental health director of Grand Lahou, Rémi Kouassy, echoed these concerns, emphasizing that health workers will monitor the proper use of the nets: “We have personnel on the ground who will report anyone who uses these nets for purposes other than malaria prevention.”
Village chiefs, community leaders, and religious leaders were invited to raise awareness within their communities regarding the proper use of the mosquito nets.
