Côte d’Ivoire -AIP / 20% of people hospitalized at Bocanda General Hospital suffer from malaria (Focal Point)

Bocanda, Apr 10, 2023 (AIP) – Bocanda General Hospital Malaria Focal Point, Coulibaly Kido, has revealed that 20% of the 1,964 people hospitalized in 2022 are due to malaria.

Ms. Coulibaly made this statement during a mobilization workshop for prefectural authorities on community activities to fight malaria in the N’zi health region, which was held on Wednesday April 5, 2023 in Bocanda.

According to specialists, malaria, which is defined as a potentially fatal human disease caused by parasites transmitted by the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, is a preventable disease and therefore can be cured.

The focal point specified that at the level of health facilities in the sub-prefectures of Bocanda, Benganssou, Kouadioblékro and N’zècrèzèssou, out of 39,113 suspected cases of malaria diagnosed, 35,766 were confirmed positive and treated with the administration of antimalarial drugs.

These figures are proof that malaria is rampant in the department of Bocanda, insisted Coulibaly Kido who invited the populations to change their behavior, in particular by taking ownership of the many prevention activities carried out by the health district. She particularly urged the populations of the N’zi health region to sleep under the long-lasting impregnated mosquito nets (MILDA) regularly distributed.
