Apple’s vice president of environmental, political and social initiatives, Lisa Jacksonstated yesterday during his participation in the Archyde.com NEXT event (in New York) that the company does not charge its customers extra to guarantee its advances in sustainability.
This statement came shortly following the company announced what would be its first 100% carbon neutral products, which even provoked some accusations of greenwashing.

Jackson, however, acknowledged the challenges of adopting a more sustainable approach by saying that “even making windmills to generate renewable energy has a carbon footprint”. Although it managed to reduce the carbon footprint of the Apple Watch by 78%, for example, the Cupertino giant still needs to deal with the 8 kilograms of emissions linked to each watch — something that, according to Jackson, the company “does not yet have the ability to necessary to do.”
The VP also assured that Apple is working with smaller processing companies to recycle rare earth elements and other materials. The idea here, according to her, is to help other companies become more sustainable and boost their existing efforts.
