Asuncion, IP Agency.- This Saturday will be the official opening of the Costanera Sur Avenue, in the section that extends from Colón Avenue to Cerro Lambaré, which will provide relief to the southern region of the city of Asunción and the Metropolitan Area.
Activities will begin at 9:00 with a bike ride for the whole family, followed by a ribbon cutting at 16:00 with the presence of President Santiago Peña and authorities from the Executive Branch. Finally, the Tierra Adentro group will give a presentation for the inauguration of the amphitheater.
To participate in these activities, you can enter through Colón or Perón. At both entry points, members of the Municipal Traffic Police (PMT) are stationed, where you can enter with vehicles.
From there, you walk a few blocks to the linear park, where the bike ride will take place. The linear park is 1,000 meters long, with 13 food service locations, children’s playgrounds, three sand volleyball courts and an amphitheater.
The new 8.1 km avenue has a capacity for 45,000 vehicles per day. It has wide roads and 4-meter-wide sidewalks, plus a bicycle lane.
The works required an investment of US$ 129 million, which includes the refilling works, the costs of the work, compensations and appropriations for its construction.
The flooding places the work 1.5 meters above the maximum historical flood of the Paraguay River recorded in the area.
As for the avenue, the route has 13 bays for stops, which could be used in the future for public transport routes.
For security, there is already a base of the Lince Group and another will soon be enabled in Cerro Lambaré, along with the installation of cameras for the 911 System.
