After an atypical World Cup qualifier, Brazil arrived at the Copa America looking to emerge from its lethargy. Its start does not seem to bode well for achieving that goal.

The Brazilians dominated their match once morest Costa Rica from start to finish yesterday, but were unable to reflect this on the scoreboard and signed a lackluster 0-0 draw.

Rodrygo, Lucas Paquetá and Vinicius Júnior had clear scoring chances, but were not sharp when it came to finishing.

After the first match, Colombia — who earlier defeated Paraguay 2-1 in Houston — took first place in Group D ahead of the Brazilians and Costa Ricans.

On the second day, the Canarinha will face the Paraguayans next Friday in Las Vegas, while Costa Rica will face the Colombians in Glendale, Arizona.

Brazil scored in the 29th minute with a goal from Marquinhos, but it was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

Daniel Muñoz and Jefferson Lerma scored headers in the first half, following masterfully served balls by James Rodríguez, and Colombia beat Paraguay 2-1.

But Colombia slowed down and Julio Enciso scored for Paraguay in the 69th minute, injecting a dose of anxiety into the final stretch of the match.
