Filmmaker Costa-Gavras will receive a Leopard for his entire career at the 75th Locarno Film Festival. The Franco-Greek director will receive this distinction on August 11 in the Piazza Grande.
In his films, the 75-year-old Franco-Greek filmmaker has denounced the excesses of the modern world, casting an uncompromising look at some of the darkest chapters of our history, can we read in a press release from the Cannes Film Festival. Locarno Wednesday.
‘His acute sense of suspense and his predilection for popular genres such as the thriller’ have always touched a large audience. He is also considered the discoverer of new facets of big stars, like Yves Montand, Dustin Hoffmann, Jessica Lange or Jack Lemmon.
For ‘Z’, considered one of the first great political films, Costa-Gavras received the Oscar for best foreign language film in 1969. He is also known for films like ‘Missing’ (1982), ‘Hanna K.’ (1983) or ‘The capital’ (2012). The director was rewarded for his work with two Oscars, a Golden Bear, a Palme d’Or and a Jury Prize at Cannes, among others.
Previous winners of the Pardo alla carriera include Francesco Rosi, Claude Goretta, Bruno Ganz, Mario Adorf, Jane Birkin and Fredi M. Murer.
