This Sunday the last day of Cosquín Rock 2023 took place. In the followingnoon on the South stage, the Spanish band Vetusta Morla performed. Among the public, a group of fans celebrated all the songs of the musical group and dedicated the Argentine song “abuela lalala” to it.
The World Cup climate is still on the surface and, like many of the festivals and plays of the season, the bands and casts continue to remind people that Argentina won the world champion in Qatar 2022. At the end of Vetusta’s show, the mastermind behind the hilarious chant spoke to VOS and told how the idea came regarding. “It is something that we had been planning since our trip to Córdoba. Since they are champions, like the Argentine team, we sing the lalala to them, ”he explained very amused.
The ideologue of the reversal of the song that went viral in December 2022 is called José, he is Spanish, but he has lived in Buenos Aires for 15 years. As he commented, he came to live in Argentina for love 15 years ago, then he separated, fell in love with the city and finally found a new romance.
The funny and smiling fan of Vetusta Morla assembled a group of friends and took them to see what for him is one of the most influential bands on the old continent. “It is one of the most important there, highly respected by critics and the public. They have been making their way for a long time, ”he added.
As José explained, the musical group grew little by little and consolidated itself as a benchmark for Spanish rock in an area in which it is difficult to position oneself, unlike Argentina where “there is much more rock culture and care for bands.”

For him, having the opportunity to see Vetusta Morla up close was an honor and immense happiness. “A luxury. One of the things that this country gives me is being able to see bands from there that it would be impossible to see from so close. Being able to live this moment has been very good, ”he explained.
Before leaving, José agreed to a short audiovisual interview where he briefly told his life story and at the end he stayed with his friends saving a place to see Fito Páez. Seeing him, the musician was delighted. “I am very touched by the story you told me regarding José. I think he represents a lot of people who have followed us during this time. Ours is a band that has grown very slowly. We spent nine years touring clubs and worlds in Spain until we were able to record an album, ”he recounted.
The band’s construction stage took time, but for them it was all part of learning and an adventure: “It was very nice, a way to forge our musical identity and collect followers almost one by one. Later we set up our own record label because we mightn’t find anyone who might publish the album for us”.
