“Anime North 2024,” one of the largest anime events in North America, will be held at the Toronto Congress Centre and Delta Hotels by Marriott Toronto Airport & Conference Centre in Ontario, Canada. The event introduced Japanese anime, manga, music, games, and other content, and was very crowded with anime culture fans. “ENTAME next” interviewed some cosplayers who attracted attention at the venue on the day, and took some original photos and answered some interview questions.

This time, we asked Michelle, who was cosplaying as General Raiden from the open-world RPG “Genshin Impact,” about the appeal of the event and the fun of cosplaying.

-First of all, please tell us your name.

Michelle: My name is Michelle. I go by the name sweetest.cosplay on social media.

-Where are you from?

Hi Michelle, I’m from Ontario, Canada. Welcome to Anime North!

-Why did you come to Anime North?

Michelle: I think the first time I came to Anime North was about 6 or 7 years ago. I’ve been coming every year since then. It’s the event that everyone knows about when it comes to cosplay in Canada.

–Please tell us your impressions of today’s event.

Michelle: Everyone is so kind and there is such a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a great anime event with a great selection of cosplay booths. There were also artist booths, which was really great.

–What did you think of other people’s cosplay?

Michelle: The cosplay I saw at this event was of such high quality. I’ve never seen an event that attracted so many cosplayers!

–What cosplay are you wearing today?

Michelle: I’m General Raiden from Genshin Impact. Yesterday I cosplayed as Mario (from the Super Mario series), and tomorrow I’m thinking of dressing up as Momo Yaoyorozu, a cheerleader from My Hero Academia (a manga by Kohei Horikoshi).

–Please tell us why you chose to cosplay as General Raiden.

Michelle: Of course, that’s because he’s one of my favorite characters. I’ve always wanted to cosplay as General Raiden, and I decided that if I was going to show it off, it should be at Anime North!

Did you make the costumes yourself?

Michelle: I bought the costume, but I made the weapons, wig, shoes, and other accessories myself. So it was half bought, half made, and it took me 5-6 months to make it. But it just rained and my costume got dirty, which is a shame. …Sorry Raiden, the rain might have ruined it.
