The 3rd edition of the NASA Space Apps Challenge, the world’s largest hackathon which took place from October 4 to 6, 2024 at the Angondjé Friendship Stadium, under the theme “The sun touches everything”. Comilog’s participation in this event which brings together digital enthusiasts is part of its clear desire to support the emergence of the digital ecosystem in Gabon and perpetuates its commitment to young people.

At the end of 48 hours of competition, the MATRIX team with its artistic web application aimed at transmitting the wonder of the discoveries of the NASA space telescope (James Webb) particularly stood out. This solution intended to popularize science through fun videos managed to do well by winning this challenge.

The second step of the podium is completed by the Ekang team with its website allowing the general public to better understand the current impacts of climate change on the planet, using 3D illustrations and immersive panoramic images.

These two winning projects will be sent to NASA to compete, on behalf of Gabon, with other projects from the four corners of the world.

Furthermore, the team representing the Mining City (Innovators of Moanda), made up mainly of 4 learners from the Fablab Moanda, financed by Comilog, also received recognition because it was part of the top 7. It seduced the jury with its e-learning platform intended to educate adolescents on the issues of global warming.

This hackathon, launched simultaneously throughout the world by the American Space Agency (NASA), locally brought together 145 participants representing 22 teams from the cities of Libreville, Port-Gentil and Moanda. They took turns to defend their projects in front of a jury which included Chung Manfoumbi, IS Project Manager at Comilog.

All these teams were supported and guided by several coaches including two Comilog employees, Désiré Mondjot and Enzo-Loïd Essono (AI Project Manager).

Initiated in 2012 by NASA, this hackathon aims to “give participants the opportunity to design and produce innovative and relevant solutions that can address global space exploration challenges and improve life on earth while having the freedom to exploit NASA’s open data”a-t-on appris.
