Corvette: an electrified version with all-wheel drive is coming soon

One of America’s most iconic sports cars will go through the electrification box. Although synonymous with big V8s since the 1960s, the Corvette, following switching to a rear mid-engine on the C8, will experience a major overhaul with the arrival of electric.

Chevrolet today confirmed the arrival of an “electrified” Corvette, followed by a fully electric version. The electrified version hears the arrival of a hybridization (in a form still unknown) while the full electric version will ignore the heat engine.

An all-wheel-drive hybrid?

Chevrolet did not provide much information on this new car. But on the video, some details will not have escaped the most vigilant. While the track seems particularly slippery, we can notice that not only the 4 wheels spin, but that those in front do it first.

If we had to take bets to date, we might bet on an electric motor driving the front wheels, while the V8 would propel the rear wheels, exactly like on the Acura NSX.

This would make for an incredibly powerful setup that would allow the Corvette to take advantage of the electric motor to fetch the optimum revs from the V8 and significantly improve performance in low-grip conditions.

As for the electric version, no information is available on the configuration that will be offered. In any case, don’t worry, Corvette has also announced that there is no question of eliminating the 100% gasoline versions, for the moment anyway.
