The Corruption Eradication COMMISSION (KPK) prevented the former Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the North Maluku (Malut) Gerindra Party, Muhaimin Syarif. He became a suspect following the Anti-Corruption Agency developed a bribery case that ensnared the inactive Governor of North Maluku, Abdul Gani Kasuba.

“The investigative team is of the opinion that information from a private party on behalf of MS (Muhaimin Syarif) is needed in the case of the development of Abdul Gani Kasuba’s bribery, so to expedite the investigation process, a preventive application has been made,” said KPK spokesman Ali Fikri at the KPK’s Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday, May 8 2024.

The prevention is valid for six months. Investigators can submit additional coercive measures to the Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) if necessary.

“So that it remains in Indonesian territory and can be extended as needed by the investigative team,” said Ali.

The Corruption Eradication Committee hopes that Muhaimin will not try to escape abroad via the rat route. He was also asked to cooperate during the handling of this development case by the Anti-Corruption Agency.

Previously, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) developed an alleged bribery case involving the inactive Governor of North Maluku (Malut) Abdul Gani Kasuba. Investigators have named as many suspects.

“The party in question is an official within the North Maluku Provincial Government and a private party,” said KPK enforcement spokesman Ali Fikri in a written statement, Monday, May 6 2024.

Ali was actually reluctant to detail the identities of the two suspects. However, based on the information gathered, they are the Head of the Education and Culture Service of the North Maluku Provincial Government, Imran Jacub and the former Chairman of the Gerindra DPD, Malut Muhaimin Syarif, who has the status of a private party in this case.
