The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that allegations of corruption in the procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) at the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) had been discovered for a long time. The irregularities were discovered when the anti-corruption agency was asked to monitor the project.

“We found indications of breaking the law like this during monitoring,” said KPK enforcement spokesman Ali Fikri in Jakarta, Sunday (21/4).

He explained that his party did not fail to take precautions when asked to be on the monitoring team for the project. The legal process is considered part of the Anti-Corruption Agency’s efforts to prevent corrupt acts from procuring PPE to handle the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Yes, we still have to solve the case. “That’s an attitude of professionalism,” stressed Ali.

Furthermore, Ali denied that his party had not provided warnings regarding preventing corruption to all parties related to the project. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has distributed detailed notifications regarding prohibitions so that corruption does not occur.

“The appeal from the Corruption Eradication Committee contains detailed details, there is a circular letter for the procurement of goods and services, the emergency conditions for Covid-19, and the Corruption Eradication Commission provides assistance,” he explained.

Previously, the Main Director of Energi Kita Indonesia, Satrio Wibowo, assessed that the Corruption Eradication Committee had failed to prevent corruption in the procurement of PPE. Because, he continued, the Anti-Corruption Agency is part of the team assigned to ensure there is no dirty play in the project.

“So, it’s very unfortunate that the Corruption Eradication Committee was also present (in the prevention team), but there was no firmness,” said Satrio.

Satrio said that the Corruption Eradication Committee was present at various meetings discussing the procurement of the project. He was confused by the reason why the Anti-Corruption Agency was only blaming the alleged corruption now.
