Mohamed Simo, deputy of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and president of the Municipal Council of Ksar El Kébir, is being prosecuted while at liberty for “corruption, embezzlement and squandering of public funds” on the decision of an investigating judge of the 5th chamber responsible for financial crimes at the Rabat Court of Appeal, we learn from local media sources.

The judicial investigation entrusted to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) had examined several denunciations raised by associative activists and the opposition of the Municipal Council of Ksar El Kébir for “irregularities” on public procurement launched between 2015 and 2021, while Simo chaired this council during his previous mandate under the Popular Movement (MP) label. Twelve other people, including some city employees, were heard in connection with this affair.

One of the files concerns a transaction considered doubtful on land sold by a member of the Council and intended for the construction of a covered hall for the municipality. Other cases relate to the construction of a secondary road, a dispute over land adjacent to a historic city wall and a grant to a sports club.

RNI partisan sources, cited by the local press, defended Mohamed Simo, assuring that “his file is empty and quite motivated by political score-settling” and that he still intends to respond in court to “slanderous denunciation”.
