With the purpose of improving the quality and efficiency of courier services on the island, the International Messaging and Exchange Company (EMCI), part of Correos de Cuba, has announced the upcoming launch of a new automated plant.
This facility, which is expected to be operational in the coming months, according to video official released by the business group, promises to revolutionize operational processes, with the aim of “humanizing work and reducing delivery times.”
Mirta Larrinaga, general director of the EMCI, has highlighted that the necessary works for the installation of the plant are currently being carried out.
Although company officials recently considered that the volume of complaints from beneficiaries in Cuba is not “alarming” compared to previous periods, the board itself recognized that “90% of the dissatisfactions are related to the delay in the courier delivery.
Why are international shipments to Cuba delayed?
From the EMCI they explain that they establish a standard period of 30 days for the delivery of shipments, which counts from the moment it arrives on the island to the final recipient. However, it is usually compromised, especially in the central and eastern regions of Cuba, where the situation is more critical.
In this sense, the deputy director of the EMCI, pointed out to the official press that “there are shipments by air that take 72 hours, but others by boat take between 30 and 45 days.” Nevertheless, Cuban Directory has learned that today these maritime shipments take up to about 4 months to reach their recipients in Cuba. All this, even when private MSMEs intervene in transportation.
