Correlation between insomnia and eye health

An increasing number of modern people complain of insomnia, such as psychological problems due to irregular lifestyle habits and use of SNS before going to bed. During sleep, our organs are allowed to rest and function normally. However, lack of sleep can impair physical function as well as mental health, so caution is required.

Lack of sleep also affects eye health. If you don’t get enough rest, your immune system will be lowered, and if you keep your eyes open for longer, the risk of ‘dry eye syndrome’ increases. The lack of tears due to dry eye syndrome is directly related to the lack of oxygen. When tears, which play a role in supplying oxygen to the eye, become insufficient, the function of cells in the eye decreases, which can lead to various degenerative eye diseases.

Insomnia is the cause of serious diseases such as chronic fatigue, lethargy, and weakened immunity. So, what causes insomnia? There are various causes of insomnia, but if insomnia and lethargy continue, ‘lack of oxygen’ can be suspected.

Our body burns carbohydrates, proteins, and fats absorbed through food and converts them into energy, and it is ‘oxygen’ that burns these nutrients. If there is a lack of oxygen, no matter how nutritious food you eat, you cannot return it to energy. Lack of energy can cause the body to enter a system in which it does not consume more energy, which can be accompanied by lethargy.

Oxygen acts as a ‘fuel’ for our body. When there is enough oxygen, our body becomes energized and healthy. Adequate ventilation in your home helps to keep oxygen from decreasing as you age. It is also a good idea to have plants in your home to help purify the air. Ventilation in the house is suitable from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. when plants release oxygen.

Exercising outside is also a good idea. The longer the depression and lethargy continue, the more time you spend at home than outside activities, which is a bad habit that repeats a vicious cycle. Rather than exercising at home or in a dreary gym, you can supply oxygen by going out and running lightly. Light exercise following work can also help relieve insomnia.
