The Post Office announced this week the investment of BRL 350 million for the construction of new branchesmodernization of operational centers, renovation of several units throughout the country and improvements in service.

According to the state-owned company, the investment package meets the request made by President Lula (PT) and should mark a new phase for the company, since the last major operational center was created in 2014 in Cuiabá (MT).

We are fulfilling the commitment we assumed with Correios’ employees and customers right at the beginning of management, to resume investments to ensure quality in the work environment and excellence in service provision. This was the mission that President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva entrusted us with: to strengthen the Post Office – said Fabiano Silva dos Santos, president of the state-owned company.

In detailing the values, the Postal Service states that it should invest around R$ 190 million in Brasília for the construction of a new package handling complex. A sorting machine will be installed at the site with the capacity to treat 300,000 objects per day, increasing efficiency by 700% compared to manual treatment.

Three other works foreseen in the planning of Correios include: two agencies in the standard format in Londrina (PR) and São Luís (MA) and an international Hub in Natal (RN). This new center in the capital of Rio Grande do Norte should be responsible for receiving around 23% of the imported orders that arrive in the Northeast.

Commenting on the matter, the president of the state-owned company highlighted the importance of the new Hub in Natal.

By taking the center to the Northeast, we are generating thousands of jobs in the region. We are not only taking infrastructure, but consolidating the local vocation of becoming a logistics hub, which arouses the interest of other companies as well.

In addition, 400 post offices are expected to undergo renovation this year, with all more than 6,000 branches also expected to benefit over the next three years.

All new buildings must be modeled on the sustainable concept, with solar panels and an intelligent air conditioning system.
