“I congratulate Andreas Babler on being elected party leader of the SPÖ. Now that the personnel future has finally been clarified, the Social Democratic Party must once once more focus on the future of the country,” comments Olga Voglauer, General Secretary of the Greens, on the presidency election at the SPÖ special party conference in Linz.

“It is high time that the SPÖ now returned to substantive politics and gave up the blanket blockade of important climate protection and transparency laws that require a two-thirds majority in the National Council. It’s regarding the Renewable Heat Act. This will enable us to advance our energy independence and free ourselves from the clutches of despots like Putin. It can’t be in the interest of the SPÖ to continue to hang on to Putin’s leash,” says Voglauer.

“In addition, energy independence and a proactive climate policy also mean cheaper energy prices for Austrians. Especially in times of rising prices, that must be the goal of all parties represented in Austria,” says Voglauer and adds: “The Freedom of Information Act for the abolition of official secrecy or the Prohibition Act are two-thirds matters. The SPÖ must return to its former role as a state-supporting party and return to the negotiating table.”
