It is a reality that we are in a historical time for humanity.

For a long time, we have not faced a disease that caused the death of so many people.

According to Johns Hopkins University, which has closely monitored the coronavirus since its inception, there have been 353.6 million positives and more than 5.6 million deaths from the pandemic.

Specifically, in Mexico it has become the main cause of loss of life in recent times.

Thus, in the first half of last year, the highest number of deaths in the country was recorded, since 579 thousand 596 individuals died, according to the preliminary death figures that were published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

The analysis maintains that with respect to the same period in 2020, there was an increase of 110,312 deaths, which is equivalent to 23.5 percent.

The Inegi reported that the coronavirus was positioned, in this way, as the main cause of death among Mexicans, following taking the lives of 145,159 people in this nation.

That figure represents a total amount of almost three times more than the 51,402 deaths that were registered between January and June 2020.

It should be remembered that between January and February of last year, the greatest health crisis occurred since the coronavirus pandemic began, since the Ministry of Health registered the largest number of hospital occupations in the largest cities in the country.

In total, the Inegi maintains that from January 2020 to June 2021, 345,415 deaths from coronavirus were added, a figure higher by 42,000, compared to the 303,183 deaths currently published by the Mexican health agency.

But that is not all. For the first time, the coronavirus displaced heart disease as the leading cause of death, since heart disease accounted for 113,899 deaths in the first half of the previous year.

Meanwhile, diabetes mellitus was positioned as the third cause of death, with 74,418 loss of life; malignant tumors caused 44 thousand 197 and cases of influenza or pneumonia, 20 thousand 956 deaths.
