The number of coronavirus infections in Belgium, as well as hospital admissions due to Covid-19, are on the rise, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Tuesday morning.
Between November 19 and 25, an average of 934 contaminations were recorded each day, up 25% compared to the previous seven days. During this period, 6,622 tests were carried out daily (+10%), of which 15.2% turned out to be positive.
Every day, an average of 3.6 people died from the consequences of coronavirus infection (-34%). Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium in March 2020, some 33,057 deaths from Covid-19 have been recorded.
From November 22 to 28, hospitals across the country admitted 63 Covid patients daily, a number up 40% from the previous week. Currently, 872 people carrying the virus are hospitalized (+23%). Of these, 45 are treated in intensive care (-8%).
The reproduction rate of the virus stands at 1.18. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to accelerate. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 102 over 14 days.
