From now on, the Public Health Institute Sciensano publishes an update of the figures of the coronavirus in Belgium every Tuesday.
Between August 20 and 26, 1,546 new infections to Sars-CoV-2 were screened on average per day, down 9% from the previous week, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Tuesday morning.
Over the same period, 6.9 people died per day on average while they were carriers of the virus (-23%), bringing the death toll to 32,516 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.
Nearly 7,700 tests on average were also carried out daily, for a positivity rate of 22.2%.
Between August 23 and 29, there was an average of 64 hospital admissions per day due to covid, a decrease of 19% compared to the previous reference period. A total of 870 coronavirus-positive people are currently hospitalizedincluding 77 patients treated in intensive care.
The reproduction rate of the virus is 0,88. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to accelerate.
The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 197 over 14 days.
