A miscalculation by the minister’s collaborators
“Het Laatste Nieuws”, a few weeks later examined an internal note from the FPS Health which proves that the amounts advanced by Frank Vandenbroucke were incorrect. The Flemish socialist ended up apologizing, explaining that it was a miscalculation on the part of his collaborators. It was specified by the FPS that a certain product cost 4.9 euros per unit. The reality is quite different, the product in question costs 1,905 euros per unit, or 390 times more than what had been announced. An error that increases this loss of money to 10.7 million euros.
The minister reacts: “I find it regrettable, to say the least, to have delivered such erroneous figures. These bad estimates are due to the use of an erroneous unit price for a certain part of the material”. According to him, this is a one-time error and promises that from now on a new inventory of federal laboratory stocks will soon be put in place with correct prices.
A N-VA MP, Kathleen asks to clarify the situation by carrying out an audit: “We have already been asking for this for a year. Too many such shortcomings have appeared in recent months. The minister must realize that he is faced with a problem. Only an audit can bring clarity”.
