Corona Vaccination: West Virginia Offers Younger $ 100 Security Reward

There is now even money for vaccinations!

Washington – The US state of West Virginia offers citizens 16 to 35 years of age as a reward for one Corona vaccination a $ 100 security.

It is regarding “really motivating” this population group to defeat the pandemic together, said Governor Jim Justice on Monday (local time). “They’re not taking the vaccination as soon as we’d like,” Justice said. “If we really want to make progress, we have to get our younger people vaccinated.”

Even those who have already been vaccinated in the age group – around 380,000 people in total – are entitled to the bond, Justice said. The reward will therefore be financed with funds from the economic stimulus program recently passed by the US Congress. The exact modalities of the campaign will be announced later.

Experts warn that it will soon become more difficult to increase the vaccination rate quickly in the USA because the vaccine-willing population will already have been cared for. In isolated cases, larger vaccination centers have already been closed once more due to a lack of demand. According to surveys, regarding a quarter or a fifth of Americans are more likely to be negative regarding vaccinations. Reaching this part of the population is likely to become more difficult, which is why some places are already considering incentives.

In the state of West Virginia with around 1.8 million inhabitants, around 52 percent of people over the age of 16 have received at least the first vaccination. But the demand has decreased in the past few weeks, said the governor. If it were to succeed in vaccinating 80 percent of younger citizens, the state might achieve a vaccination rate of around 70 percent “and put an end to the virus,” said the Republican.

“If we can do that, the masks will be gone, hospital stays will disappear and deaths will be minimal!”

The vaccination campaign in the United States, a country of around 330 million people, is progressing rapidly. According to the CDC health authority, around 141 million people have received at least one dose of vaccine so far, and 96 million people have already been fully vaccinated. Around 37 percent of adults are thus fully protected.
