Corona deaths are two to three times higher than announced

Paris: Here are the latest developments related to the spread of the Corona virus in the world in light of the latest numbers, measures and new facts:

On Saturday, Canadian police regained control of the main street in front of the federal parliament following using “chemical irritants” to disperse hundreds of truck drivers who have been crippled in central Ottawa for more than three weeks in protest once morest health restrictions.

Security forces arrested 47 people, some of whom were carrying explosives.

The protest movement, which its organizers called the “Freedom Caravan”, began at the end of January, and its leaders are truck drivers who rejected the mandatory vaccination decision to cross the border between Canada and the United States.

But the demands of the protest, which the authorities underestimated at the beginning, expanded to include the rejection of all health measures and even the demand for the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

elective promise

Opponents of the vaccination certificate and the health policy of the French government once more demonstrated in the streets of Paris and several other cities on Saturday, arguing that the announced easing of restrictions linked to Covid is nothing but an “electoral” promise.

With the outbreak of Covid infection receding since the end of January in France, the pressure on hospitals also continues to decline, according to figures published Saturday by the French health authorities. There are currently 28,632 patients with Covid in French hospitals, compared to 31,522 in the previous week.

The downward trend also appears in the intensive care departments, where the number of patients is 2,918, compared to 3,324 patients a week ago.

As for new cases, the daily average for seven days reached 86,509, compared to 145,619 in the previous week.

The Covid epidemic has officially killed more than 5.87 million people worldwide since the end of December 2019, among more than 420 million confirmed cases, according to an AFP count Saturday at 7 pm GMT.

The United States is the country with the highest number of deaths (934,546), followed by Brazil (643,029) and India (511,230).

The World Health Organization estimates that the total number of deaths may be two to three times higher, taking into account the increased number of deaths due to Covid-19 directly and indirectly.
