What saint might the organizers of the Cornouaille Festival invoke? Aziliz, without a doubt! Who else, in fact, than the patron saint of musicians, to understand how vital it was that this damn rain stop, this Sunday followingnoon, so that the big parade, free this year, can be played without any false note.
Holy water wedding!
This rain played with the nerves of the organizers, the bagadoù, the circles and the festival-goers, throughout the morning. Isabelle Assih, the mayor of Quimper, had she not underlined, during an inaugural evening enveloped in a beautiful summer heat, that the centenary festival was celebrating its “water wedding” this year. A reminder that sounded like a prophecy this Sunday.
But, shortly following 2 p.m., everything changed. In an instant, these quays, this historic heart, too sparse the previous hours, filled up. A compact crowd, family, amassed along the route. A crowd that is difficult to quantify, but ready to amaze your eyes and ears. And then, around 2:30 p.m., a clearing, weak, certainly, but saving. It was enough for the parade to start. And it was the Cavaliers de l’Odet who had the honor of opening the festivities, closely followed by the Collective 100 flags, imagined on the occasion of another centenary; that of Gwenn ha du.
Two hours, at 100 an hour
The atmosphere then rose to a crescendo during this boss-sized parade, twice as imposing as in previous years. About forty formations, nearly 1,500 soners and dancers, have thus contributed to writing the new score desired by the festival. A final bouquet, in the purest tradition, and which also reflects all the vitality, all the liveliness of Breton culture. To make you forget the few drops that finally fell on this Cornouaille must-have. After more than two hours of a show at 100 an hour, there was even a ray of sunshine. Subtle. Very subtle. But enough to make the Nightingales of Stangala sing and ring the Bagad Kemper at the top of their lungs. Enough to close the march in style!
