Corinthians 0 – Flamengo 2: goals, summary and result

Vidal’s last time in the Copa Libertadores

After 15 years and 86 days, Arturo Vidal will have his reunion with the Copa Libertadores tonight, wearing the Flamengo shirt, in his visit to Corinthians for the first leg of the quarterfinals.

The ‘King’ played 107 international matches for European clubs, between the Uefa Champions League, Europa League and the preliminary phase of the latter tournament. In total, he scored 19 goals and provided eight assists.

Since when did Arturo Vidal not play Copa Libertadores?

Arturo Vidal has not played a Copa Libertadores match for 15 years and 86 days. 5,565 days have passed since May 8, 2007, when Colo Colo defeated América de México 2-1, but was eliminated in the round of 16.

That day, the albos formed with Sebastián Cejas; Miguel Riffo, Luis Mena (75′ Édison Giménez) and Arturo Vidal; Gonzalo Fierro, Rodrigo Meléndez, Arturo Sanhueza, Moisés Villarroel (57′ Juan Gonzalo Lorca) and Giovanni Hernández; Alexis Sánchez (84′ Juan Pablo Arenas) and Humberto Suazo.

The ‘King’ played in defense with a line of three, the favorite of coach Claudio Borghi. Los albos had lost 3-0 in the first leg. The 2-1 score was not enough, despite José Antonio Castro’s own goal and Humberto Suazo’s agonizing goal.
