Just one year following publication of the B Sides is multi-talented Corey Taylor back and presents us his latest work, which has the title CMF2 carries. In contrast to his last album, the writer and multi-instrumentalist shows us where he wants to go on thirteen tracks.

Two singles have already been released – Beyond is an infectious mix of clear and distorted guitar sounds. The use of several vocal tracks is particularly interesting. You can convince yourself HERE. Post Traumatic Blues In return, it is harder, the sound is heavier and promises a pleasant change for all fans of growls and clear singing.

Gentle mandolin, rough vocals

The beginning of the album offers a big surprise. Make gentle mandolin sounds and rough vocals The Box a perfect opening song, in addition the lyrics actively invite you to relax and enjoy CMF2 a. A little more melancholic, but just as calm Sorry Me.

That Corey Taylor he is a multi-instrumentalist, as he proves with titles like Someday I’ll Change Your Mind – he sings, plays piano and guitars.

Another highlight and great enrichment of this solo album are certainly the guest musicians such as Joseph Manning or Fred Mandelsecond a genius we from Alice Cooper or Pink Floyd know. “Fred Mandel was not only open to playing on some of my songs, but he really liked them and then he put on all the Hammond stuff ‚Breath Of Fresh Smoke‘ played it and totally blew me away. I mightn’t believe it.”

From well-known guest musicians to Easter eggs – Corey delivers!

The titles are characterized by catchy melodies, lots of musical details, and keep what they promise. With producer Jay Ruston songs like We Are The Rest and Dead Flies lots of potential for infection, motivation and desire to dance.

It will be interesting to see when Corey Taylor will go on tour with this stroke of genius and what the fans can expect. As is well known, hits from the current albums as well as covers and stone sour tracks are played on the solo tours. Corey himself says: “If we want to change something in the set, we do it; we surprise people all the time.”

For the fans, Corey Taylor has hidden two Easter eggs in the line up that we won’t reveal here…stay tuned, people!

Conclusion
CMF2 is energetic, experimental and direct, but with the maturity of an experienced and successful musician. The titles are infectious and encourage multiple playthroughs. 8,5 / 10
