Javier Milei achieved his third consecutive victory in Córdoba on his way to reaching the Presidency of the Nation. He won in the PASO, in the general elections (in both cases beating Juan Schiaretti) and in the runoff, where he achieved a resounding victory: 74% to 25%. With 89% of the tables counted, Milei achieved 1,480,898 while Sergio Massa reached 511,843 votes.
To take dimension of Milei’s triumph, we must remember Macri’s victory over Scioli in 2015 (a triumph that took him to the Casa Rosada). In that election, 1,546,000 people voted for Macri, practically the same number of people who in this election opted for the leader of La Libertad Avanza.
From the LLA bunker they pointed out that “the Argentines’ need for change was key in Milei’s election,” while they stressed that the quick agreement reached by Milei and Macri a few hours following the first round was decisive in the election. “Patricia’s votes were for LLA,” they added.
Milei won in 25 of the 26 departments of the Province (the exception was Minas). In that sense, the ‘support’ that Massa believed he had obtained from a good part of Córdoba Peronism was diluted as soon as the first results were known.
“They didn’t play hard, it’s clear. We always said that Schiaretti’s attacks were foreseeable, but many raised support that did not come,” said leaders who supported Massa’s candidacy.
In fact, Schiaretti made his position clear as soon as the official results were known with a strong message on last three elections for that force.”
“And this happens because they mistreated Córdoba and the interior of the Homeland during these 20 years, governing from and for the Republic of AMBA with a true lack of federalism, which was reflected in the value of the cost of the transportation ticket, electricity, for water and fuel we must pay more expensively throughout the interior,” Schiaretti added.
