Asunción, IP Agency.- In the department of Cordillera there are 10,496 establishments corresponding to MSMEs, which represents 2.9% of the total micro, small and medium-sized businesses throughout Paraguay, reports the second Formalization Bulletin prepared by the Vice Ministry of MSMEs of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC).
The largest number of businesses in Cordillera is concentrated in the microbusiness sector, reaching a total of 9,651, which represents 92% of the Department’s total. Small and medium-sized companies scale to a number of 740 and 105, respectively.
Cordillera is positioned as the sixth most populated department in the country, reaching a total of 271,475 inhabitants in 2022, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Of the almost 10,500 MSMEs in the Department, only 10% are registered with the Social Security Institute (IPS), and of these, only 70% are also registered with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTESS).
The Vice Ministry of MSMEs carries out actions to counteract this percentage and achieve a greater amount of formalization of this economic sector.
It is reported that, in Cordillera, 43% of MSMEs work in the commerce sector, 34% in services, 17% work in the secondary sector, and 6% in the primary sector.
Situation of micro, small and medium-sized companies in Paraguarí
The constitution of this economic sector in Paraguarí is 6,081 MSMEs, which is equivalent to 1.7% of the total micro, small and medium-sized companies nationwide. This department has a population of 199,430 inhabitants.
Paraguarí is strategically located in the center of the Eastern Region of the country, in addition to being classified as the fourth smallest department, surpassing Cordillera, Guairá and Central.
In the ninth department, the high presence of microbusinesses is identified, which constitute 93% of the business fabric in the region, around 5,638. While 6% are small and 1% are medium, that is, 377 and 66 businesses, respectively.
47% of the total Paraguarí micro, small and medium-sized companies are dedicated to commerce, while 30% are in the services sector. To a lesser extent there are the secondary and primary sectors, reaching a rate of 16 and 7%, respectively.
Regarding the formalization rate of all MSMEs, 10% have IPS, that is, regarding 622; while around 90% do not have this social security.
