Coralie Nyango, inspired designer “Everything alone! »

At only 23 years old, designer Coralie Nyango is at the head of the intello-pop brand Galerie Emprise, a one-women project where she campaigns with unique pieces.

You stood out with your puffy balaclava designed to protect Instagram waves, and you just released the “Reminder IG is not real life” t-shirt. Are you on an anti-Insta crusade?
Coralie Nyango: Still not! I wanted to have a sort of catchphrase that made an impression and grabbed onto people’s minds…a bit like Instagram notifications. By writing this message on signs, t-shirts, and various accessories, I hope to remind you that Instagram is not real life.

Why this subject for a first collection?
I wanted to talk regarding the constant comparison, the loss of self-confidence that this network induces. I had done a questionnaire, posted in story, and a lot of answers explained to me a malaise due to the discrepancy with the perfect body and idealized by the networks. And I, like many of my girlfriends, have also been there.

The designers who make you want to create?
I would say Rei Kawakubo, stylist and founder of the brand Comme Des Garçons. She inspires me enormously, her work is rooted in the art and construction of clothing. She shows what she wants to show and it stops there; she doesn’t care regarding the image. I think I’m a bit like her!

You are currently working on a new project: Ruffles. What is he talking regarding ?
Of all those things that we try to accomplish, but we never manage to achieve. It’s a theme that is both personal and universal because we all have projects in progress, but due to lack of time, resources or laziness, we don’t see them through.

And everything is handmade?
Yes, I make all the pieces by hand. I sew, I do the patterns, I take care of the website, the communication… I do everything by myself!

And why this brand name, Galerie Emprise?
I would love to open a gallery to be able to exhibit my creations and explain my research and my concepts. From the beginning, I knew that I didn’t want to stay focused on the selling part of clothes, but rather to make conceptual fashion that would allow me to show, tell or denounce.

What is fashion for or should it be used for?
It’s used to talk regarding yourself, to tell your story, to add your touch of originality.

Today, is made in France possible?
Made in France is possible, but we have to value the handmade, give more opportunities to young designers and stop consuming just to follow a trend, but rather follow our instinct and s dress as you want!
