A late goal from Luis Suárez made it 2-2 and sent the match for third place in the 2024 Copa América to a penalty shootout in a match played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Rodrigo Bentancur put Uruguay ahead in the eighth minute, but Ismael Koné equalised a quarter of an hour later with a great overhead kick inside the area.

At the end of the second half, Canada, which looked more physically aggressive than Uruguay, scored the winning goal in the 80th minute through Jonathan David.

Uruguay made too many technical errors and Canada missed two great opportunities to take the lead on the stroke of half-time, first through Tani Oluwaseyi and then through Jonathan Osorio, who came up once morest goalkeeper Sergio Rochet.
